When you're small, pets look like big snuggly teddy bears brought to life. As adults we know that, no matter how cuddly, pets are living things and can be unpredictable.

There's always the chance that they might lash out if they're hurt or frightened. Even the doziest of dogs and coolest of cats should never be left alone with a pre-schooler.
